Team Dunlop Pros
I love the challenge I get from tennis. I love the direct correlation between your effort and your results.
You’re always trying to be the best you can be. That’s the motivation, to keep working hard and develop your game so you’re competitive at the top for as long as possible.
I like tennis, because it’s something you can gradually improve and you can see yourself getting better. In tennis, you have to always do something you’re not good at. To challenge yourself. You have to try every day, every moment on the court.
I play tennis simply because I love to play. I love this game. I love the adrenaline you get during a big match. And of course, winning a match or a tournament is an amazing feeling.
I like the feeling and the challenge of constantly trying to improve and get better at my sport. That feeling of being able to do more now than I could last week is something I really enjoy.
When I was three years old, my father took me to the tennis court. I was hooked straight away. I’ve always just really enjoyed the game. That enjoyment, that pleasure is still there now. It’s still the main reason I play, simply because I love playing the game.
As a kid, I was shy and team sports weren’t really my thing. Tennis gave me that space to be alone and build my self confidence.
My main motivation for playing is the love of the game and what opportunities it has and continues to provide me.
Each challenge and each victory pushes you to the next level and that helps you to keep pushing yourself. That’s what makes a great game for me. When both me and my opponent are playing a high level of tennis in front of a big crowd and I’m enjoying every moment of it.
Ever since I first started playing, I’ve always enjoyed the process of improving my game and trying to achieve better results. My aim is to be a better player and person and to ultimately win a doubles Grand Slam.
I absolutely love the game. I love the complexity. Wheelchair tennis is like playing two different sports at the same time: manoeuvring your wheelchair and hitting tennis balls. That’s a challenge.
That sense of objectives is important to me. Achieving your goals after lots of effort is a fantastic feeling. And if you don’t get there, you keep fighting to improve and get there in the end. Sport is a clear illustration of what life is about. It’s why I love sport so much.
My parents are what drives me – in sport and in life. They’re my greatest source of encouragement and my driving force.
ANIEK VAN KOOT
My tip for anyone coming into the game is always be yourself. There’s only one of you, so make yourself unique. That goes for how you play the game and how you are in life.
I play to become the best player I can be. My ultimate goal is to win a grand slam. I love working hard and chasing that dream. I feel very lucky to wake up every day and do what I love.
I enjoy the time on court, developing myself day by day, and seeing all the hard work pay off. That feeling that you left it all on the court, and if you think back, you know you enjoyed every second of it.
I still play because I love it. I’ll play as long as my body allows me to play. It’s great to be on court in front of a crowd trying to beat the guy on the other side with what you’ve got on that day, both physically and mentally.
I love the feeling of winning and pushing myself to being the best I can be. But most of all, making my living doing something I love is a dream come true.
